About Youngtown

Built in 1954 on 320 acres of farmland 15 miles from downtown Phoenix, Youngtown was the nation's first city to be occupied solely by senior citizens. Age restrictions were removed in 1998, allowing all generations to enjoy the quiet life in this community. Youngtown's residents value the small town charm of their self-contained community with affordable ranch style homes, a man-made lake, recreation hall, medical facilities and more than 200 specialty shops and services.

Activities and Attractions

Youngtown likes the quiet lifestyle. Enjoy the Youngtown library before heading a short distance north of town to visit some of Arizona's great old ghost towns and abandoned mining camps. Nearby is the Pioneer Arizona Living History Museum, a replica of a 1880s Arizona village complete with costumed guides, restored buildings, and crafts demonstrations. For outdoors enthusiasts, the 10,000-acre Lake Pleasant to the north has fishing, swimming, boating, water skiing, hiking and places to tent camp or park the RV. White Tanks Mountain Regional Park, to the west, has hiking trails leading to ancient Indian petroglyphs and a scenic desert waterfall. End the day back in Youngtown at the Heidelberg Inn pub and brewery.
